GDC Products Seismic Signature Book™ Library From 1988 to 1990, Geophysical Development Corporation (GDC) conducted an extensive study in order to relate the petrophysical properties of the Gulf of Mexico to the corresponding seismic AVO (amplitude vs. offset) responses. An exploration methodology for comprehensive prospect evaluation was developed from this study. Included in this methodology was a modified Gassmann's equation which predicts shear-wave velocity based on volumetric log analysis. This prediction has proven to be quite accurate and robust when compared to modern dipole shear measurements in the same well, even for shear-wave velocities less than mud velocity or measurements made in geopressure. This research has made it possible for GDC to offer a library of AVO synthetics and petrophysical displays for offshore Gulf of Mexico wells. Each Seismic Signature Book™ in the library is a work-up of a specific well, and provides the interpreter with a wealth of information. For example, explorationists will gain insight as to whether a gas sand at a prospect might yield a "bright spot," "dim spot," or "phase reversal" on seismic data. Similarly, the interpreter will be aided in distinguishing whether an AVO analysis of a water-saturated clean sand will increase or decrease with respect to a gas-saturated sand. GDC can provide the same Seismic Signature Book™ service on an individual proprietary basis for our clients. For a thorough description of the Seismic Signature Book™ Library including the contents, and pricing, please contact GDC.
